Vehicle Defect Offences
A uniformed police officer can stop a person driving a vehicle and also has the power to stop and search a vehicle if the vehicle appears to be in breach of the regulations relating to the construction of that vehicle.
If the vehicle is deemed unsafe to the driver, passengers, other road users or the general public due to a vehicle defect then a driving offence has been committed.
Punishment of Vehicle Defect Offences
Defective tyres and brakes and steering could result in a possible driving disqualification or three penalty points on your driving licence and a fine of up to £2500.
