Most traffic offences carry endorseable penalty points on your licence.
Points are relevant from the date of the offence and not from the date of conviction. Delaying the Courts process will not avoid a driving ban under the totting up system.
If you accumulate twelve penalty points or more over a three year period then the minimum periods of disqualification are as follows:
A motorist who faces a driving ban for ‘totting up’ may avoid disqualification if they can show ‘exceptional hardship’. Examples include losing your job and house and the exceptional hardship is not limited to yourself but extends to your family members or your employer who are affected by the consequences of a driving ban upon you.
