Totting up 12 points or more

12 points may not necessarily lead to a ban

Carl Millar | Head of Road Traffic Department

It is also possible to be disqualified under the ‘totting up’ procedure whereby a motorist acquires twelve penalty points or more on their licence over a period of three years. In these circumstances a motorist will be disqualified for a minimum period of six months unless you can show ‘exceptional hardship’.
