A motorist from Norfolk appeared before West Norfolk Magistrates Court charged with an offence of drink driving. His reading in breath was 65ųg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35ųg.
Having pleaded guilty to the offence, 36 year old Vladislavs Jurgevics was sentenced to an immediate prison sentence for a period of six months. This is the maximum sentence available to the Court for an offence of drink driving.
He was also disqualified from driving for 5 years. An aggravating feature in this case was that Mr Jurgevics has had previous drink driving convictions. Any motorist convicted of drink driving twice in a 10 year period, will receive a minimum period of disqualification of 3 years.
It is rare for drink drivers to receive immediate custodial sentences, especially with a reading of 65ųg.
