Drink Driving – Alcoholic Caught Drink Driving 10 times and Driving whilst Banned 38 Times 18/07/2012

An article in the Lancashire Telegraph refers to a serial drink driver having received a custodial sentence for 12 months after his 38th conviction for driving whilst banned, and his 10th conviction for a driving with excess alcohol related offence.

Mr Robert Khan was caught driving erratically on a scooter along a country road.  He received a custodial sentence for a period of 2 months, and a further 10 months from a suspended sentence for a similar previous offence.

Burnley Crown Court heard that Mr Khan previously received a 2 year suspended jail term for driving whilst disqualified and attempting to pervert the course of justice.  He had reported the car he was driving had been stolen.  In sentencing, Recorder Cross told Khan “nobody wants to send people like you to jail if they can avoid it, but unfortunately you are a volunteer.  You keep volunteering for jail… let’s hope you dry out in jail”.
